Hundreds celebrate Harka Weiser at Oregon vigil

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP)  -- Hundreds of people gathered at sunset on the steps of Beaverton's Arts & Communication Magnet Academy in remembrance of Haruka Weiser, the Oregon teenager killed this month at the University of Texas in Austin.

The Oregonian reports classmates, teachers, parents and friends gathered Sunday night to remember Weiser. Pink and yellow ribbons tied to branches fluttered in the breeze and votives in hanging mason jars flickered in the air.

Weiser was a 2015 graduate of the Arts & Communications Magnet Academy. She attended the University of Texas on a full dance scholarship.

Her body was discovered April 5 in a creek. A suspect remains in custody.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday morning at Holy Trinity Church in Beaverton.
