PUYALLUP, Wash. -- A 60-year-old  Orting man was killed and four people were injured Friday when a pickup truck traveling southbound on SR 167  slammed into the back of a car stopped on the highway and pushed it into the rear of another pickup, the Washington State Patrol said.

The accident happened on SR 167 just south of SR 512.

The deceased 60-year-old man was a passenger in a white 1994 Isuzu pickup truck that plowed into the back of a stopped 2004 Nissan Murano, which then hit the rear of a stopped 2003 Chevy pickup.  The Nissan and Chevy were both stopped in lane one of the highway.  The identity of the deceased man was not released, pending notification of next of kin.

The 55-year-old driver of the Isuzu pickup, the 45-year-old driver of the Nissan Murano, and two passengers in the Nissan -- a 13-year-old and a 1-year-old -- were injured and taken to the hospital, the State Patrol said. The driver of the Chevy pickup escaped injury.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, the State Patrol said.
