Cops: Man refuses to drop rifle, shot by police in Lake Stevens



LAKE STEVENS -- A multi-agency team of detectives is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Lake Stevens late Tuesday night.

Investigators say police shot a 22-year-old man who refused to drop a rifle near 18th Street NE and Main Street.

Initially, police received calls about gunshots in the area. When they arrived around 11 p.m., officers confronted the man. After 45 minutes, police say at least one officer shot him.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear.

The unidentified man was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett. Investigators expect him to survive.

The Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team is handling the investigation. The team of detectives from various law enforcement agencies investigates police use-of-force incidents across the county.

Roads in the area were blocked off overnight but reopened around 7 a.m.
