Faulty tornado sirens wake up Minnesotans

HENNEPIN COUNTY, Minn.-- If you are having trouble getting out of bed this morning-- just be thankful you don't live in Hennepin County, Minnesota today.  Many residents there awoke to outdoor warning sirens far before their alarms were set to go off Tuesday morning.

The warning sirens were inadvertently sounded at 6:10 a.m. The system is internally tested daily to ensure functionality but does not normally sound the sirens. The system experienced a computer hardware malfunction during the daily test on Tuesday. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said in a release that the system has been repaired and is back to operating normally.

Normally, the system goes off during severe weather.

So while Minnesotans may have lost an hour of sleep-- at least they aren't having a tornado.
