Friends of slain Renton mother devastated, horrified: 'Why did he do this?'

SEATTLE -- Friends and family of Ingrid Lyne were devastated to learn that the missing Renton mother of three had been slain, cut into pieces and discarded in a Seattle recycling bin.

When Lyne disappeared Friday night after a Mariners' game, her friends feared the worst.

Longtime friend Nichole Rock joined those who turned to social media in hopes of finding Lyne, but when she learned someone discovered body parts in plastic bags inside a recycling bin Saturday afternoon, her fears only grew.

“It's just wrong; it was just so wrong,” Rock said as she broke down in tears.

Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole said Monday that police are 'confident' the human remains are those of Lyne, but said the King County medical examiner would make the official identification.

“We're very confident that the victim is the one that has been identified in the media,” O’Toole said, alluding to Lyne.

O'Toole said there is more to investigate, including how and where she died, but they arrested a suspect in the case.

"The suspect has been identified as John Robert Charlton,” said O’Toole. He's a man whose Lyne's friends say Lyne met online and had gone on a date with before she disappeared.

"Why did he do this? And why did he put her in pieces?” asked Rock.

She said there are questions no one should have have to answer, including Lyne’s three children.

“To think about their kids, and they need their mom,” said Rock. “Kids, they need a mom.”

Friends say Lyne’s children are with their father,  Lyne’s ex-husband.
