Seahawks WR Ricardo Lockette, working on own comeback, turns out to help homeless in Seattle

SEATTLE -- Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette, who's still recovering from a severe neck injury and surgery, took time out Thursday night to give back -- volunteering to help the homeless in downtown Seattle.

Many remember Lockette on a stretcher -- motionless after being laid out by a devastating hit during the Dallas game last November. He later said doctors told him he almost died that day, which gave him a new perspective on life.

"That was one of my most vulnerable, helpless moments," Lockette said.

On Thursday night, he and his girlfriend joined other volunteers at Seattle's Union Gospel Mission to hand out clothes to the homeless, who could use a new pair of jeans or a warm coat on a cold night.

"We're just doing what we can to give back, to help, because you never know when you'll be in a situation when you need help from someone else," Lockette said.

That's the kind of character we saw from the wide receiver when he raised his hand from the football stretcher to make an "L" sign as he was being carted off the field in Texas. He said the "L" was a sign to his teammates -- "Love our brothers".

The 29-year-old is still recovering from neck surgery and he wants to return next season. He said he expects to make the Pro Bowl.
