Former Seattle mayor proposes banning cars, trucks from Westlake Ave. to improve traffic in city

SEATTLE -- Former Mayor Mike McGinn says he has a plan that will help lessen downtown traffic gridlock.

He proposes closing Westlake Avenue to cars and trucks and only allowing public transit and bicycles.

In an article he wrote for Crosscut.com, he points out that Westlake Avenue slices through the city diagonally and it isn't use that much. He said closing it to cars and trucks would improve traffic on other streets.
