Here's where Washington ranks among states that get the most sleep

Getting a good night's sleep is not as easy as many may think. A host of factors can affect sleep quality, including spending time in front of a computer or TV, as well as eating or drinking coffee right before bed. A person’s health can also prevent getting a full seven hours. Poor or interrupted sleep is caused in large part by sleep apnea, which in turn is correlated with obesity and diabetes.

With this in mind, HealthGrove crunched the numbers to find the lucky states where adults get the most shut-eye. Using 2014 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), they ranked the top 29 states where the largest percent of adults receive an average of seven or more hours of sleep per night.

HealthGrove also included the obesity and diabetes rates from 2014 in each well-rested state to highlight the important effect physical health has on sleep. The states with higher than average sleep on the list have lower obesity and diabetes rates.
