Suspect accused of stealing from JBLM soldier in Yelm surrenders; booked into Thurston county jail

Yelm Police say the suspect who stole a JBLM soldier’s vehicle from her apartment complex while she

slept surrendered Monday afternoon.  He was booked into the Thurston County jail on one count of auto theft and five counts of identity theft.  "He said he surrendered because several people told him he was on Washington's Most Wanted," said Det. Bill DeVore.  We are not naming him because he has not been officially charged.

The soldier's vehicle was located after the theft thanks to OnStar but the suspect was seen on surveillance cameras at Walmart in Spanaway and Yelm using her credit cards that she left inside.

Police are reminding people to remove anything they don't want taken from their vehicle.  "Make sure you're aware of where your purse is, your wallet.  Don't leave any personal items that are in plain view."  said Det. DeVore.
