Permitless carry proposal headed to Idaho governor's desk

BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ Idaho will join a short list of states that don't require concealed carry permits under legislation headed toward Gov. C.L. ``Butch'' Otter's desk.

House lawmakers voted 54-15 on Friday to allow Idahoans to conceal loaded weapons with no permit or training just two days after it sailed through the Senate with a handful of opposing votes. However, people ages 18 through 20 would need a permit and training.

Otter has not commented if he will sign the legislation, but he has supported loosening Idaho's gun laws in the past.

Currently, Idaho allows permits people to carry a gun openly _ in a holster, for instance _ without a permit.

Other states that don't require concealed carry permits include Alaska, Arizona, Kansas, Maine, Vermont, Wyoming and West Virginia. Similar proposals have been introduced in other state legislatures this year.
