4 hikers who became lost on Mount Si after bear scare found safe and sound

NORTH BEND, Wash. -- King County Search & Rescue on Friday found four hikers on Mount Si who became lost after they saw two bears and ran off the trail and deep into the woods, the King County Sheriff's Office said.

"Hikers down and are safe and sound," the sheriff's office tweeted a little after 3 p.m.

The sheriff's office said the hikers called 911 Friday morning to report they were lost. The four women said they became frightened after seeing two bears, perhaps a mother and cub, and they went deeper into the woods as they thought the bears were following them. They couldn't find the trail afterward.

The sheriff's office said the hikers were found by GPS signal.
