Three dead in car crash near Granite Falls





GRANITE FALLS, Wash. -- Three people were killed in a car crash late Thursday on Mountain Loop Highway.

Authorities said a neighbor heard a sound around 9:30 p.m. Thursday but didn't think much of it. He noticed a car down the ditch the next morning as he walked his child to the bus stop.

Investigators said the car appeared to have swerved across the road and hit a tree head-on.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said two females and a male died in the crash. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office  identified them as 26-year-old Mikayla Mikesell of Marysville; 27-year-old Dawna Simmons of Granite Falls; and 31-year-old Jonathan Simmons of Granite Falls.



The Snohomish County Sheriff's Department was called to Mountain Loop Highway near 124th St NE around 8 a.m.

The road was closed all morning but reopened around 1 p.m.
