Olympia police recover stolen Emmy statue

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — An Olympia man who won two Emmys has worked with police to recover one of his award statues, which he says was taken from a storage unit.

The Olympian reports the burglary was reported Feb. 17. Brett Hansen, who works for TVW and won Emmys for two documentaries, says he decided to look for the statue on Craigslist after police told him getting it back was unlikely.

Hansen says he found the Emmy online where sellers had it listed for $3,500.

He alerted detectives who showed up to meet the sellers in Lacey.

Lt. Paul Lower says three people arrived with the statue, but the nameplate on the award had been removed. He says police are "pretty sure" the Emmy is Hansen's, but that they'll keep the statue until an investigation is complete.

“Clearly the people who had this Emmy didn’t win it,” Lower told the Olympian. “And their stories about how they got it were questionable at best. They all told us something different.”

No arrests have been made.
