2,500-pound great white shark caught off South Carolina coast, then released

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — A 2,500-pound great white shark was caught off the South Carolina coast, tagged and released, according to an Outcast Sport Fishing Facebook post.

Captain Chip Michalove told WIS that it was one of the largest he’s ever landed.

“This is our 5th white shark hook up of the winter, and 3rd one landed,” the Outcast Sport Fishing Facebook post read.

The shark may be big, but it isn’t the biggest to be spotted off the coast of the Carolinas.

According to FOX8 News, two massive great white sharks, the 16-foot 3,456-pound “Mary Lee” and the 14-foot 3,200-pound “Katharine” pinged off the North Carolina coast last year.
