Police warn of attempted child abduction in Renton

RENTON, Wash. -- Police are warning parents after an attempted abduction of a 6-year-old boy Monday in Renton.

According to Renton police, the boy was walking in the 3400 block of Meadow Ave. N around 3:15 p.m. when a man jumped over the wall of Interstate 405. Detectives say the suspect walked up to the child and grabbed his shoulder. The child yelled and managed to escape. The suspect jumped back over the wall.

The child's 9-year-old brother was walking a short distance behind him but did not see what happened. He heard his brother scream and ran to him.

They then ran home and told their parents what had happened.

Police used a K9 to try to locate the suspect but did not find him.

Investigators gave only a vague description of the suspect, saying he was 6' tall, thin build, brown or black hair. At the time, he was wearing an orange jacket and orange shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1.
