Elderly woman mauled by dogs, has life-threatening injuries

THURSTON COUNTY – An elderly woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after being mauled by several dogs in Thurston County Sunday evening.

The 92-year-old woman was visiting a neighbor who was not home at the time.  The neighbor provides the woman with day-to-day care giving tasks so it was not uncommon for the woman to enter the home if her neighbor wasn’t present.

After entering the home around 5:00 p.m., the woman was attacked by up to four dogs inside.  Only one of the dogs belonged to the homeowner, the other three were there because the homeowner was dog-sitting for a relative.

While the woman was being mauled by the dogs, the homeowner came home and was able to get the dogs off of her and call 9-1-1.

The female victim was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries due to the dog mauling.

Animal services took the dogs into quarantine.

Thurston County Sheriff’s office describes the dogs as –  one adult male Pitbull/Lab mix, one adult female Pitbull/Heeler mix, one juvenile male Pitbull/Lab/Heeler mix, and one Juvenile female Pitbull/Lab/Heeler mix.

According to the sheriff’s office at this time there is no criminal case pending as a result of what they are calling a “tragic event.”
