Elderly man found dead after fire rips through Seattle home



SEATTLE -- Firefighters discovered the body of a 96-year-old man in a North Beacon Hill home late Tuesday night.

Crews responded to the fire at the house on the 2000 block of South Plum Street. Investigators believe the fire started in the backyard near the patio and spread to the home. Firefighters are calling the fire an accident and blaming it on an electrical malfunction.

When firefighters searched the house, they found the victim in the kitchen.

Crews remained outside the home overnight. The total damage  was estimated at $150,000, according to Seattle Fire.

The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of the death.
