Tree crushes vehicle near Portland, kills pregnant driver

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a pregnant driver was killed when a tree fell on her SUV in Multnomah County.

Sheriff's Lt. Steve Alexander says the woman was traveling westbound Tuesday on Southeast Oxbow Drive when the falling tree crushed the driver's side of the vehicle.

Another motorist saw the tree topple and tried to save the woman. The driver, Mike Weber of Sandy, told KOIN-TV he couldn't find a pulse, so he held the woman's hand and prayed while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

He told the station he didn't know the woman was pregnant.

The woman's name has yet to be released.
