So much for a grand opening of new SR 520 bridge -- suspect leads police on chase across span

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- A suspected getaway driver took off from a robbery at the Burberry store in Bellevue, sped west and onto the construction zone of the new SR 520 Bridge, then stopped, hopped out and ran the entire length of the span before he was eventually caught, Bellevue police said.

The new bridge is about 7,710 feet long.

The suspect was found hiding in the bed of a construction pickup truck when officers finally caught up to him, police said.

Three passengers in the car he left behind were also arrested, police said.
