Man sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison for fatal stabbing of teenage girl in Redmond

SEATTLE -- A Redmond man was sentenced Friday to 22 1/2 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old girl in 2014.

Daniel J. Haggart, 26, pleaded guilty last month to a second-degree murder charge with a deadly weapon enhancement. The mandated sentence range was 18 to 26 1/2 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Haggart fatally stabbed Cara Neil, 17, in the chest in Redmond when she came to the defense of Haggart's girlfriend when Haggart and his girlfriend were having an argument.
