Woman struck, killed by car in Tacoma; driver not cited

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Tacoma police say a woman has died after she was struck and killed by a car.

The News Tribune reports that the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as 39-year-old Ambrosia Martinez. She died at the scene Tuesday night.

The driver was not cited or arrested.

Police say the driver was apparently distracted by a man who was on the side of the road, flailing his arms. The driver didn't know whether he had hit something and went back to the area.

Officer Shelbie Boyd says investigators believe the woman, who was homeless, was lying in the street when she was hit by the car.
