Hit-and-run driver who WMW viewers helped catch -- sentenced to 8 months in prison

SENTENCING UPDATE January 24, 2017 --
Convicted hit-and-run driver, Scott Duncan, was sentenced to 8 months in prison on Tuesday.

CASE UPDATE February 11, 2016 --
Snohomish County Detective Marc Lewis and his partner have located and impounded the vehicle that hit Scotty Becktell in Everett.

Detectives say a tip from one of our viewers after we aired the video of the SUV on Q13 and Washington's Most Wanted was extremely helpful in identifying it.

They also located the driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision. He is cooperating with the investigation. Charges will be referred to the Snohomish County Prosecutors office.

Det. Lewis found additional video at a nearby business that provided them with a partial license number which subsequently led them to the vehicle.

HIT AND RUN DRIVER WANTED IN EVERETT February 4, 2016 --
Police say new surveillance video shows the SUV that hit, and likely paralyzed, 22-year-old Scotty Becktell in Everett on Jan. 23.

Scotty doesn't remember anything leading up to the crash but detectives hope this video will jog someone's memory. Police say the SUV likely has front-end damage on the passenger side after striking Scotty so hard.

Scotty's mother, Lynn, hopes people pay close attention to the new evidence.

"Scotty needs justice," Lynn said Thursday.  "I think it will help Scotty heal. Scotty has to learn to adjust to life without walking. I’m just praying that somebody out there will do the right thing and come forward if they know anything.”

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case. You can remain anonymous. If you know something, please call 1-800-222-TIPS.
