Oregon governor amends controversial minimum wage proposal
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Gov. Kate Brown has made several changes to the minimum wage package that she plans to take to lawmakers next month in hopes of thwarting two aggressive ballot measures in November.
Under the amended plan made public Friday, Oregon's current $9.25 minimum wage would climb slightly to $9.75 statewide beginning this July. The next increase would take place in 2022 with a two-tiered approach, raising metro Portland's minimum to $14.50 and everywhere else to $13.25.
Brown's revised plan would start raising wages six months sooner than initially planned, but the increases themselves are smaller. In a statement Brown said her revisions were based on feedback from stakeholders.
