Police: Driver arrested after hitting 16-year-old Kent-Meridian High student in crosswalk

KENT, Wash. – A 16-year-old Kent-Meridian High School student is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries and a 22-year-old Kent man was arrested after a collision in the school’s parking lot Wednesday.

Kent police said early reports were that the driver entered the parking lot “at a high rate of speed” and lost control of his car.

They said the car then ran into the student, who was in a crosswalk.

The man was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault.

Police said it doesn’t appear that drugs are alcohol were a factor, but that speed was.

The teenager was listed in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center Wednesday night.
