Trial begins for woman accused of killing family of 6 in Carnation

SEATTLE (AP) — The trial begins Monday for Michele Anderson in the 2007 Christmas Eve killings in Carnation. Her former boyfriend is already serving six life sentences for the six deaths of Anderson's family members.

Anderson will not face the death penalty if convicted, but jurors do not know that. The jury was chosen Jan. 13.

King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg had initially sought the death penalty against Anderson, who is now 37. He changed his mind in July after juries in two other aggravated-murder trials did not impose death sentences.

One of those cases was against Anderson's former boyfriend, Joseph McEnroe, who was convicted of the same killings Anderson is accused of committing.

While McEnroe's trial took four months, Anderson's trial is expected to last six weeks. Opening statements are scheduled for Monday.
