Sounders FC signs Mercer Island's own Jordan Morris -- top college soccer player last season

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Sounders FC are announcing the signing of Jordan Morris, the top college player in the country last season.

Morris' MLS rights are owned by Seattle as a homegrown player and he played for the Sounders' academy. He is from Mercer Island.

He tweeted a photo of himself in Sounders jersey #13 with the caption "It's good to be home! #seattlelove."

Earlier this week, Morris turned down an offer to play for Werder Bremen in Germany. The German club announced Morris' decision, saying he saw his future in America.

Morris made his national team debut in 2014 and scored in 2015 in an exhibition against Mexico. The 21-year-old junior forward had a pair of goals to lead Stanford over Clemson 4-0 for its first NCAA men's soccer title in December and he won the Hermann Trophy as the top college player. He skipped his senior season at Stanford to turn pro.

His father, Dr. Michael Morris, is medical director for the Sounders.
