Los Angeles Zoo worker falls into gorilla enclosure

LOS ANGELES -- Firefighters rescued a 61-year-old man who fell into the gorilla enclosure at the Los Angeles Zoo.

KTLA reports firefighters hoisted the zoo worker up a ladder that had been lowered into the enclosure Thursday morning.

In a statement, the fire department said the patient was “safely extricated” and was being prepared for transport to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

Photos of the scene showed the man lying on a stretcher before being transferred to an ambulance for a medical evaluation.

The zoo was closed when the worker fell Thursday morning.
