Two grenades found in Tacoma home

TACOMA - If you heard an explosion Thursday night near the Tacoma landfill, you weren't imagining it.  Bomb experts were detonating two live grenades found in a Tacoma home, The Newstribune reported.

According to a police spokesperson, officers responded to a home in the 3800 block of North 12th street, after a neighbor found the grenades in the house and called police, the paper reported.

The neighbor was taking care of the home for the owner, who has been in a hospice, Officer Loretta Cool told the paper.

It isn’t clear how old the grenades were, but Cool said they appeared to be relics from a war and that investigators called Joint Base Lewis-McChord to help, because the grenades were military weapons.

The bomb experts detonated the grenades around 11 pm, the paper reported.  Cool said that the homeowner would not be charged.
