Bail bondsman, burglary suspect hospitalized after gun battle in Thurston County

OLYMPIA, Wash -- A bail bondsman and a man wanted for burglary are in the hospital after gunfire was exchanged in Thurston County, detectives said Saturday.

Deputies were called to a trailer on the 12000 block of Yelm Highway Southeast, just south of the Nisqually Red Wind Casino.

Investigators said two bail bondsmen were attempting to capture a man wanted on a burglary warrant, when the suspect fired several shots.

One of the bail bondsmen, who was unarmed, was hit by gunfire. His partner, who is licensed to carry a sidearm, fired back and hit the suspect.

First responders transported both men to Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia in unknown conditions.

Thurston County deputies said they will likely be transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
