Man accused of threatening Salvation Army in Bremerton, beating employee unconscious

BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — A man accused of beating a Salvation Army employee unconscious then threatening to return to the Bremerton social service organization with a gun, shoot employees and blow up the building has been charged with felony assault and harassment.

The Kitsap Sun reports that the 37-year-old man was arrested Sunday on the felony charges and is being held on $500,000 bail.

He was initially arrested Wednesday on investigation of gross misdemeanors.

Bremerton police say Desmond Malcolm and his wife had been living on Salvation Army property in their camper since August. Malcolm told investigators he was upset because his wife had been harassed with racial slurs for the past six months.

The Kitsap County Office of Public Defense says Malcolm will have a public defender but a lawyer has not yet been assigned to him.
