Pullman man convicted of murdering father

COLFAX, Wash. (AP) -- A Whitman County jury has convicted Erik Luden of second-degree murder in the death of his father earlier this year in Pullman.

The jury's decision followed a trial that began Monday in Whitman County Superior Court in Colfax. The jury began deliberations on Wednesday morning.

The Lewiston Tribune says sentencing will be Friday morning.

Testimony from experts showed that 58-year-old Virgil Luden, of Sammamish, Washington, was struck a minimum of 15 times to the head and neck inside his son's apartment on May 30.

Erik Luden, 24, contended his father attacked him first with a kitchen knife.

Defense attorney Steve Martonick says Erik Luden called 911 when he realized what had happened and didn't try to run.
