5 times the Seahawks beat the crap out of the Steelers

SEATTLE – OK, so recent history hasn’t been great. The Seattle Seahawks have lost the last three games they’ve placed against the Pittsburgh Steelers (and we’re not even going to bring up a certain Super Bowl in which certain refs screwed a certain team out of their first title).

But, let’s look at the big picture. Seattle is 8-8 in regular season games against Pittsburgh - and the Seahawks utterly dominated a lot of those games. Here are five times the Hawks delivered the beating the Steelers so richly deserved:

1999: Seahawks 29, at Steelers 10

“I thought our quarterback performance was very bad,” coach Pittsburgh coach Bill Cowher said after this one, and he wasn’t kidding. Kordell Stewart started the game at QB and he was BAD. Like, three interceptions in two quarters bad. So bad, in fact, that he was replaced at halftime by Mike Tomczak – who went right out and threw two picks of his own. Todd Peterson had a huge day in this one, kicking five field goals for Seattle.

1994: At Seahawks 30, Steelers 10 (at Husky Stadium)

Chris Warren was named AFC offensive player of the week after smacking around the Steelers, rushing for 125 yards and a TD. In what will become a theme in these games, the Seahawks intercepted the heck out of the Steelers’ QB again, picking off four Neil O'Donnell passes – including on three straight possessions.

1991: Seahawks 27, at Steelers 7

Pummeling the Steelers was one of the few highlights of Chuck Knox’s last season as Seahawks coach. Dave Krieg completed 25 of 31 passes and threw for two TDs in his first game back after breaking his thumb in the opener. "We've had some bad games in the 12 years I've been here . . . and this is one of the worst," Steelers tackle Tunch Ilkin said after the game.

1986: At Seahawks 30, Steelers 0

In their greatest all-time decimation of the Steelers, the Seahawks intercepted Steelers quarterback Mark Malone three times. Pittsburgh managed a whopping 146 yards of total offense, converted 2 of 14 third downs and fumbled twice. Steve Largent caught seven passes for 65 yards and a touchdown – his 124th straight game with a reception, which was good for second-best all-time at that point. Curt Warner picked up 114 yards on 21 carries.

1982: At Seahawks 16, Steelers 0

The Seahawks’ third shutout in team history - and first in the Kingdome - happily came at the expense of the Steelers, who were undefeated coming into the game. The Seahawks knocked quarterback Terry Bradshaw out of the game with a sprained shoulder, and Cliff Stoudt came in to replace him and promptly threw three interceptions. Steve Largent had five catches for 109 yards.
