Really? Thieves steal 'Habitat for Humanity' truck in Tukwila

TUKWILA, Wash. -- It's the holiday season, but that didn't stop thieves in Tukwila.

Someone stole a truck full of donations from right outside the Habitat for Humanity's new building in Tukwila.

"We are here to help people and support the mission of building homes and making sure that people have a place to live where they can raise their families," said Gail Luxenberg, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Seattle and King County.

So staff were shocked when thieves stole one of their trucks full of donations for the new store. Luckily, neighbors spotted the stolen truck just 5 minutes away, parked on a residential street.

"The person wasn't too smart that did it, I guess, because the truck has all of our advertisements on it -- Habitat for Humanity -- on it," said Michael Albiar, store manager.

All of the donations were still inside -- $20,000 worth of new windows and doors.

"They didn't break the glass or anything," Albiar said. "They popped the lock and after they popped the lock ... they tore up the whole steering column to hot-wire, that's how they took off."

"I think we were all kind of shocked that that would happen," Luxenberg said.

Although the donations are safe, the truck is sidelined for at least a couple of weeks.
