Gunshot victim sends Tacoma elementary school into lockdown

TACOMA, Wash. --  Tacoma Police were called out to car accident in front of McCarver Elementary School, on South J Street, around 8:30 a.m. Friday and discovered the driver was covered in blood and had been shot.

Officers learned the man was shot at a different location, however; the driver was not being cooperative about what happened.

The driver told police the shooting may have happened somewhere on 17th Street but police said they couldn’t locate a crime scene.

Officers are now looking at whether the shooting may have been self-inflicted.

During the investigation, McCarver Elementary School was placed on lock down as police made sure there was no threat to students or staff at the school.

The driver of the car was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper right leg.

No one else was injured and the investigation continues.
