SEATTLE — The Seattle Seahawks said Tuesday they are waiving wide receiver Chris Matthews.

It’s Matthews’ second year in the NFL since being undrafted out of the University of Kentucky.

Matthews had a crucial onside kick recovery in last year’s NFC Championship win against Green Bay. Then he had 109 yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl last year.

He has four catches this season for 54 yards. He was active for all nine games.

The Hawks also signed Kevin Smith from the practice squad. He was a standout pass catcher and kick returner for the University of Washington.

Smith impressed the team during training camp, but was cut before the 53-man roster deadline. He was then added to Seattle’s 10-man practice squad.

Smith was originally an undrafted rookie free agent. He’s spent time with the Cardinals and Jaguars. Smith signed a future contract with Seattle in February.
