Delays of more than 2 1/2 hours at JFK, Newark airports

NEW YORK CITY - Some arriving to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark International Airport in New Jersey are experiencing more than 2 1/2 hour delays.

A statement on the Federal Aviation Administration's website says Saturday evening's delays are being caused by airplane traffic management plan that was put into effect because of an equipment outage.

Flights taking off from the airports were also being delayed more than hour.

Representatives for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates both airports, did not immediately respond to a call for comment.

The FAA is encouraging people to check with their airlines to see if their flights are affected.
