Troopers search for hit-and-run suspects after apparent street race causes 4-car crash on I-5

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Troopers say two cars racing on Interstate 5 in Federal Way caused a crash that involved several vehicles.

The hit-and-run crash happened Friday morning. Both racing drivers fled the scene, authorities said.

State troopers say the crash involved four wrecked vehicles and two victims with minor injuries. Witnesses told troopers that one car had fled the scene and another driver had fled on foot.

A preliminary investigation found that two cars apparently were racing up I-5 when one of them clipped a pickup truck, causing it to spin. The other racing car slammed into it head-on, causing a chain reaction.

Trooper Chriss Webb said the vehicle that fled was a black Dodge Charger.

All lanes of northbound I-5 reopened by 6 a.m.
