Second bear spotted near Kitsap County elementary school

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- For the second time in as many days, a bear was spotted near a Kitsap County elementary school.

On Thursday, school officials at East Port Orchard Elementary received a report that a bear was in the area of Cruz North Car Wash and Bethel Avenue. Students at the school were immediately brought inside, and outdoor activities were suspended for the day.

Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife crews were searching for the bear.

On Wednesday, officials from Sunnyslope Elementary School in Port Orchard sent out a notice to parents of students at the school, saying they received a report from a neighbor that a bear was hit and injured by a car on a road near the school.

The bear was never found.
