Applebee’s to pay employee with autism who didn't get paid for a year

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A Rhode Island man who worked at Applebee’s for nearly one year will finally receive a paycheck.

Officials say Caleb Dyl has autism and was placed in the job by the social service agency Resources for Human Development. The 21-year-old began working as a prep-cook at the Middletown restaurant in August 2014. His parents say he never received a check.

According WPRI-TV, Applebee’s initially agreed to pay Dyl for 166 hours, based on the agency’s records. Dyl's parents say he worked close to 480 hours.

Rhode Island's Department of Labor and Training is still investigating the complaint.
