Bilingual posters latest step in International District murder investigation

SEATTLE -- Police are hoping a new flier will bring in new leads in the Donnie Chin murder case.

The fliers, written in English and Chinese, went up in Seattle's International District. It’s the latest step in an investigation that’s provided very few answers so far.

Vinh Nguyen works at Crawfish King, located on the corner where Chin, a community activist, was killed.

“It's sad. He's not here and the community isn’t the same,” Nguyen explained. “We all knew who Donnie was. He walked around he was the safety man stood by he made his rounds every day.”

It’s hard for Vinh to go to work and not think of Donnie. His restaurant still has bullet holes from the morning Chin was killed.

Vinh saw that familiar face again as community leaders put new Crime Stoppers fliers asking for the public's help.

“There's somebody out there that knows something and they're afraid to come forward because they don't want to get their name and so forth,” retired police detective Myrle Carner explained. “This guy didn't deserve this. We need to get it solved; your tip might actually be the one that does it.”

On July 23, bullets ripped through Donnie’s car at 3 a.m. during his routine patrol around the community.

Police believe he could have been caught in the crossfire between two rival gangs.

Right now, there's an $11,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and charges. Call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
