Officials: Man fell 15 feet into old Olympia well

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A man is recovering after officials say he fell into a 15-foot-deep well in Olympia.

The Olympian reports that rescuers were dispatched to the scene Wednesday in the Cooper Point area. The man had been with a friend when he tumbled into the chest-deep water of the old well.

Olympia Fire District's battalion chief, J.D. Young, says the well's lid had been pulled aside when the man fell in.

The Thurston County Special Operations Team helped rescue the man using a rope.

Young says the man was conscious and responsive, but appeared to show signs of hypothermia. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
