More than $770,000 raised for Oregon shooting victim who tried to stop gunman
PORTLAND — More than $770,000 has been raised so far for Chris Mintz, the wounded hero who tried to stop the gunman at Umpqua Community College last week and was shot seven times.
On the page, organizers are directing those wanting to donate to give to the funds set up for those killed in the attack in Roseburg, Ore., as well other injured.
“We just want to make sure that before you donate to Chris, please remember all of the other victims and consider helping them out if you can. It is what Chris would want,” the page says.
A gunman killed nine people at Umpqua Community College last Thursday before taking his own life.
In addition to the funds that have been raised, a petition was started on Change.org, requesting President Obama award Mintz the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his actions. Started Friday, the petition already has over 94,000 supporters as of Monday night.
