Family looking for answers after man shot, killed in Kent parking lot

KENT, Wash. -- Police are still searching for the gunman who shot and killed a man in a busy shopping center Wednesday night. His family is desperate for answers.

Rona Yumang and Boon Tang were supposed to be celebrating their seven-year anniversary today. But instead of planning their upcoming wedding, she’s now planning his funeral.

The 23-year-old's body was found in his SUV, in the Target parking lot Wednesday.

“He was just so nice, I don’t understand why anybody could have done that to him,” says Rona. “To take him away from his daughter and me. Especially today being our anniversary, we can’t even be together.”

Rona and Boon’s sister Milinda agreed to talk to Q13 FOX, but they asked us to blur their faces because they’re scared. Police still haven’t found the person who shot Boon.

According to witness reports and surveillance video, Boon and the shooter pulled into the parking lot together. So police think they knew each other.

“I really don’t know what to believe,” says Milinda Tang. “We’re just all in shock that this even happened.”

Police found the Toyota Corolla that the shooter was driving in Renton Thursday night. But Boon’s family says they haven’t gotten any updates on the investigation since. Rona says it’s been hard trying to explain what happened to her four-year-old daughter.

“When I did tell her that her dad wasn’t going to come home, she cried her eyes out. It was really hard for her.”

It’s also hard for friends who grew up with boon in Kirkland.

“He was a good guy, got along with everybody. Very respectful,” says Destiny McKenna.

She says the shooting came as a complete shock. She can only hope that Boon will get justice and his family will get some answers.

“We really want the people who did this to him to get caught and get punished for what they did. He didn’t deserve to die.”

Boon’s family has set up an account to help pay for his funeral, which is scheduled for Thursday. You can find more information at: https://www.gofundme.com/zx5gzdm8
