Man dies during scuffle with police on Tulalip Reservation

TULALIP, Wash. — A 50-year-old man is dead, following a physical altercation with law enforcement on the Tulalip Reservation.

Two officers from the Tulalip Tribal Police Department, and one deputy from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, were called to the 6400 block of Marine View Drive just before 10 p.m. Friday night.

When they got to the scene, officers said they found a man walking in the roadway and attempted to place him in “protective custody.”

While they were putting the man into a patrol car, police said he began to physically fight them. At some point during the incident, the man became unresponsive.

Responding officers said they attempted to revive him until paramedics arrived, but he died at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding his death have not been released.

Detectives with the Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team are investigating the entire incident.

The three law enforcement members involved have been placed on routine administrative leave.

The man’s identity, and his cause of death, will be released by the medical examiner’s office.
