MARYSVILLE, Wash. (AP) — The Marysville City Council voted unanimously to ban vaping in city parks.

The Daily Herald reports that the council voted this week on an ordinance that prohibits electronic cigarettes in city parks as of Sept. 24.

The ordinance puts vaping devices in the same category as tobacco.

Smoking and tobacco use is already prohibited under city ordinance, and the city’s modification to the code says vaping also emits harmful chemicals into the air.

Mayor Jon Nehring says the ordinance was a logical progression from the current smoking ban.

He says parks should be free of health hazards.

People who violate the vaping ban could face a $150 fine.
