2 die in small plane crash in Oregon

PORTLAND (AP) — A small plane crashed south of Eugene, killing two people.

KEZI-TV of Eugene reports the plane crashed Monday shortly after takeoff from the airport in Creswell, and the Lane County Sheriff's Office said that the two people aboard did not survive.

Witnesses told KEZI the plane burst into flames. Footage on the station website shows charred wreckage.

The sheriff's office has yet to release the names of the victims or any details of what happened.

The National Transportation Safety Board, in a tweet, identified the plane as a Luscombe 8A. The agency said it will investigate.

The airport, located just east of Interstate 5, is owned and operated by the city of Creswell.

Airport manager Shelly Humble did not immediately return a phone call seeking information.
