Female inmate found dead in Pierce County Jail; sheriff's department investigating

TACOMA -- A 27-year-old female inmate at the Pierce County Jail was found dead in in her bunk Wednesday, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said.

The woman, who was from the Puyallup area, had been booked into jail early Tuesday on a felony probation violation warrant. She was not identified.

"Preliminary information from the investigation indicates there was no struggle, incident, or injury during her arrest; there are no signs of foul play or suicide," the sheriff's department said. "Investigators will await toxicology screening to determine cause of death."

The sheriff's department said deputies found her in her bunk at about 1 a.m. Wednesday and she was not breathing and had no pulse. Deputies attempted life-saving measures before she was transported to Tacoma General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
