UW considers building offices atop light-rail station

SEATTLE (AP) — The University of Washington is looking to build an office tower over the new U District light-rail station.

The Seattle Times reports that the university does not have firm plans for the site, but they are considering a tower up to 240 feet tall, if the city allows such height.

The school acquired the development rights above the station in 2013 from Sound Transit. A transit spokesman says board members will consider amending that deal next month to get more money to pay for fortifying the site to support a larger building.

The City/University Community Advisory Committee, which advises UW and city officials on planning, voted to support the tower last week.
