Man fights deputies in downtown Seattle, kicks one in face

SEATTLE -- An uncooperative man at a bus stop in downtown Seattle injured two deputies in an altercation Tuesday afternoon.

According to the King County Sheriff's Office, a deputy approached the man to ask him to quit smoking at a bus shelter near 4th Avenue and James Street.

Authorities say the man refused, and knocked the deputy's hand away, started fighting him and ended up on top of him.

Two civilians nearby helped the deputy take control of the situation and put the suspect in handcuffs.

Officials say a second deputy arrived and as they tried to put the suspect into the back of the patrol car, the suspect kicked the 2nd deputy in the face.

The first deputy suffered minor bumps and bruises.

The suspect was taken into custody. Authorities believe he suffers from mental illness.
