Woman killed in attack under Magnolia Bridge; suspect shot following stand-off

SEATTLE -- A man wielding a stick with a metal tip beat people on their heads under the Magnolia Bridge Monday night, killing a woman and injuring at least one man, police said.

A second man may have been injured but was treated and released, police Capt. Neil Low said.

A suspect in the attack was holed up in a tent under the bridge and citing Bible verses, Low said. The suspect was believed to live in that tent.

Hostage negotiators were called in to try to get the suspect to come out of his tent. Eventually, the suspect tried to run, police said, and he was shot in the leg by a SWAT officer. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Seattle police detectives are investigating the the incident.
